A novelisation of “the gift bringer”, based on the nativity by years 3, 4 & 5
IN A SMALL VILLAGE THERE LIVED A WOMAN CALLED BABUSHKA, she was dressed in a snow-white shawl and a tatty, burnt umber frock.
BABUSHKA OWNED THE TIDIEST HOUSE IN THE VILLAGE, she frequently checks to see if it was spic and span nearly every two minutes!
MONDAY WAS A MOPPING DAY, Tuesday a dusting day, Wednesday a “changing” day (this day she changed the appearance of her hut), Thursday a brushing day, Friday an exterminating day (where she either tidied dead bugs or killed them), Saturday was a scrubbing day and on Sunday she finally rested.
AS DAY DIMMED, the people of the village were surprised to see that light was billowing in from the east, on the road to Bethlehem.
“LOOK! THE STAR!” Cried a child, “Look at those figures silhouetted against the light! They’re heading this way!”
“LOOK AT THEIR HEADS! THEY’RE ALL SPIKY AND SHIMMERING! THEY MUST BE KINGS!”
INDEED THEY WERE, as the figures approached, long, scarlet robes with golden lining were revealed.
THE KINGS CRASHED AT BABUSHKA’S HOUSE FOR THE NIGHT, the next day, Babushka hesitated before scooping up a couple of toys in a wicker basket and traveling with them.
THE KINGS AND BABUSHKA CAME TO A STABLE IN THE VILLAGE OF BETHLEHEM, inside were three wise men, half a dozen shepherds, a girl all in baby blue, a stout man dressed like a shepherd and a spotless baby in a manger.
THE BABY WAS CALLED JESUS, Mary, the baby blue girl said he was Jesus and that he was god’s son, a king among men.
